Why the iPhone/iPod?

Isn't it just a 2mp/3mp camera with no flash, slapped on the back of a phone/MP3 Player?

It's currently only 2 / 3mp (depending on your model) but that's still better than most camera phones. Megapixels are not everything when it comes to quality, for example a 6mp camera can sometimes take better photos than a 9mp because as the pixel density increases on the cameras sensor (CCD or CMOS) so to does the noise as interference from adjacent pixels. This results in speckled colour dots on your images. We would like Apple to continue to concentrate more on noise reduction, contrast, sharpness & colour saturation rather than just bumping the megapixel count on each new version of the iPhone

When the first iPhone was released, Flash memory prices were high, so a high megapixel camera would just use to much memory & slow down uploading & syncing

Although some would like a flash, many hate them, that washed out look making every moment in every place look the same without any atmosphere (washed out bright faces & dark backgrounds with no sense of movement) We'd like to see Apple focus on improving low light images with high ISO, low noise & leave the flash to third party manufactures

With your point & click camera you need to put your thumb on the bottom to be able to exert enough pressure on the button. This limits the range of possible wrist movement & the camera can swivel out of line. Compare that with the way you cup an iPhone to take a picture & with it's no pressure touch screen, you soon see how much more wrist angle range you can get

With the new 3GS & iPod nano you are also able to shoot video & simply upload to your favourite sharing site or email to friends. No excuse for missing your baby's first steps & having to carry a big video camera with you all the time just incase
